Douglas Braaten, PhD, EMBA oversees the strategic development and planning of all scholarly scientific publishing at The New York Academy of Sciences. Following twenty-three years of basic research in immunology, HIV, gamma-herpesvirus biology, Drosophila genetics, and cell biology at various university research laboratories, with over twenty primary research articles published, he began his scientific editorial work at Nature Immunology in 2005, and then moved to the Academy in 2009.

Dr. Braaten earned dual EMBA degrees at UCLA and the National University of Singapore, a PhD in the microbiology department at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and a BA in biology at Washington University. He also studied in PhD programs in philosophy at Columbia University and the CUNY Graduate Center, the MD program at OU School of Medicine, and the Master of Liberal Arts program at Washington University in St. Louis.
